Your tankless water heater temperature setting is so high that you have to turn up the cold water to enter the shower. That cuts the flow demand to the tankless water heater and it shuts off leaving you shivering in the shower. Master Plumber talks about how to fix that problem in this video. Call us at 281-302-6710.
Summary of Fixing a Tankless Water Heater Temperature Setting
Sometimes people call in about a tankless water heater that keeps cutting on and off, on and off. Most of the time we find that it’s a problem with the water heater temperature setting. The water heater is set too hot.
A lot of people will crank the water heater temperature up all the way as high as they can get. The temperature setting will be up to 140 degrees. There’s a flow switch in a tankless water heater, and you’ve got to have so much flow going through that water heater for that water heater to kick on.
Well, if you’ve got your water heater cranked all the way up to 140 degrees, when you go to mix the water in your shower, you’re mixing too much cold water in there. That causes a low flow coming into that water heater and the water heater cuts off.
To fix that you can drop that water heater temperature setting down to 120 degrees. However, I know a lot of people like hotter water. If you keep it at about 130 degrees, that’s as hot as you’ll ever need for a shower.
The 140 degree water heater temperature setting is more for commercial applications. By dropping the temperature setting of your tankless water heater, you’ll mix more hot water in when you’re taking a shower, creating enough flow to kick that water heater on.
Technicians arrived right on time. Solved the problem with water heaters very fast. Gave honest advice and were very friendly and polite.Definitely at the top of my list.
