Here’s Bryan talking about water heater leaks.
This is a summary of the video.
There’s a pan which is the first catch. So, you’ve got a water heater pan and that has a drain going to the outside usually if it’s in the attic. Now, one thing you can do to kind of make sure that that pan does its job is to make sure that you don’t have insulation and things in the pan that are going to stop up that drain when it starts leaking.
A lot of times when they put them in people will be up there working. When it’s a new house especially, there’ll be stuff working. You’ll get insulation, you’ll get trash, you’ll get wood chips, and stuff that are in the pan. If you make sure that pan’s cleaned out, if that tank does start to leak, then it should drain out properly.
Now, it’s not… You could get spiders to build a nest in there or something happened and it not do its job then it over flows. There is an alarm that you can have installed, but again you’re going to have to be home to hear that alarm go off.
Call Graham Plumbing Services if you’d like us to check your water heater and check the function of the pan drain as a precaution against water heater leaks. We service and install tankless and tank type water heaters.
